Directors of Swiss companies are the best paid in Europe, bringing in more than twice as much pay as their average European counterpart.

Figures from recruitment consultancy Heidrick & Struggles have found that Swiss directors took home an average of just under 140,000 euros ($190,000, £95,000) last year.

This compares with average remuneration of 72,000 euros across the 10 countries surveyed.

Spaish directors were the next best paid on 96,000 euros per year, followed by UK directors on 93,000 euros.

Bottom of the pile, however, are French company directoprs who took home just 43,500 euros on average.
