Sainsbury's goes web-only

Supermarket chain Sainsbury's has become the first major UK employer to introduce an Internet only staff recruitment scheme after research, showed that the vast majority of the 50,000 people who apply for jobs with the firm every year would prefer to apply online than use paper forms.

Candidates will get immediate feedback as they complete their application on-line, and will be contacted by the supermarket within an average of 48 hours. The entire recruitment process will take days rather than weeks and save the candidates time and worry.

The company is also introducing 'Job Points' in stores for those who don't have a computer.

The move is expected to save Sainsbury's £4 million a year in administration costs.
