New Year is traditionally one of the most popular times for people to look for a new job – and this New Year could be one of the best yet, according to recruiter Manpower.
The company’s latest recruitment intentions survey has found UK employers reporting the strongest intentions to hire in the New Year since its records began.
Its survey has reported a “net employment outlook” of +14 per cent. Taking out seasonal variations, this rises to +18 per cent.
The figure is calculated by subtracting those employers that plan to reduce staffing levels from those who plan to hire staff.
A positive result indicates more employers plan to increase than decrease staffing levels, with a negative reflecting the opposite.
Those looking for jobs in the finance and business services may well be the best placed of all, with employers reporting a net employment outlook of +24 per cent, the most optimistic figure since 1998.
Manpower managing director Mark Cahill said: “These figures are extremely positive, particularly as the first three months of the year are traditionally a quieter time for recruitment, as companies scale back after Christmas.
“With low levels of unemployment, it is very much a jobseekers’ market and the opportunity is there for candidates to develop their experience and skills.”
