Pay rises still ’few and far between’ for British employees

Careers web site Monster.co.uk has asked over 2,000 British employees when they last received a pay increase.

The results suggest that three-quarters have not had a pay rise for a year or more, while almost four out of 10 have not had one for at least two years. More than one in 10 respondents (14 per cent) said that they actually took a pay cut.

The findings suggests that trouble could be in store for employers. With the UK economy is witnessing the highest employment rates since records began and skills shortages growing, conditions are ripe for large numbers of people to demand a meaningful pay rise or head for the door – where there will be no shortage of employers willing to meet their demands.
